2018.08.12 - Day #94 - Rest the leg, go grazy, part 1

No PCT miles.

I got up around 6:30am. The shin and ankle were stiff and sore. I slept relatively well in the bunkbed. No noises around, the mattress was not too soft and I did not eat myself senseless the previous evening like usually in towns.

Alan making breakfast. Warm oatmeal!

I went downstairs in order to destroy some of my abdundant breakfast camping food, but Alan was about to make "real" porridge
I was happy to have that. There was also coffee. You know, hot coffee. Birdman was awake as well so the morning went nicely by socialising. I did some gentle stretches for my leg, and took some ibuprofein. Then I went to the basement to finish catching up the blog while having my leg in ice wrapping.

The place where one leg will be healed. It damn sure will be.

The Cascade Ski Club has previously rented the premises for a skateboard summer camp for every summer for the past 25 years, but as they lost the customer, is now open for hikers during the summer. The basement of the lodge is meant for hikers, having a sofa, fridge, microwave and a television. It contains also the showers and toilets, so that is where I spent most of the day. This to be out of Alans way while he is conducting his work, and also to give myself the peace to write my nonsense.

I managed to update my Instragram account. It is a little silly to upload the pictures so late, and without having the exact location tag. But it is better than nothing and one can elaborate the process in the future.

The day did not contain that much else, just having a lunch of tortillas filled with my extraneous camping bean mix, visiting the store for more ice cream, and doing laundry.

Later in the day another hiker came into the hostel. Brian was doing a small section hike in order to prepare himself for hiking the PCT next year. We conversed much of the evening, mostly about hiking and then some about running. Brian has done a fair amount of running and runs a related business. These moments make me remember how it is important to your overall health to have interesting conversations and not just sit by yourself eating sweets the whole day when injured.

It is funny how quickly a day goes even if you do not do that much. Granted, talking with people makes time fly. I did not notice that much improvement with the leg, but dutifully tried to massage, ice and elevate it, as well as eat ibuprofein 1200 mg in total. Even as one friend said that it is old information that it would actually help for inflammation.

The whole dorm for just myself. Not a popular place, it seems.

I called the day around 10:30pm, unsure yet whether I should continued hiking Tuesday or Wednesday. At least not tomorrow.
